Disney World - Florida

Disney World 2011

Right! Not what you would typically think of when you think of Florida. But when your trip takes you right past Metropolis, IL, you can't help but swing into town to visit the large Superman statue and visit the museum.

Where our 2011 Disney memories began...
Pop Century Resort

This is the resort we stayed in while visiting. It was the newest value resort right on the Disney property with free shuttle access to all of the parks. It had 3 pools and each section of the resort had its own theme from the 1950's-1990's. We really enjoyed our stay here.
Hollywood Studios

On the first day of Disney my true love gave to me, Hollywood Studios! This was probably the hottest day as we glistened in the sun with our sunscreen. I think it may have appeared hotter also as it didn't seem to have as much tree/jungle cover as the other parks.

STAR WARS: JEDI TRAINING ACADEMY

The boys had a fun time learning how to
handle a lightsaber and fight Darth Vader!!

The force was strong with them both...

At 3:00 we caught the Pixar Pals Countdown To Fun parade.
Animal Kingdom

Animal Kingdom was definitely a much cooler park because of the jungle cover and rainforest atmosphere. It may have been my favorite. We went on a jungle safari, rode the awesome Expedition Everest roller coaster which stops more than once during the ride, we caught the Lion King show and even ate at an awesome restaurant called Yak and Yeti. The best part is that this park closes early so we were able to catch a breather before 2 long days at Magic Kingdom.

The lion sleeps while the elephant... creeps?

The boys got a lot of character autographs while visiting the parks. There was a nice meet and greet area at Animal Kingdom where they met several characters. Look at these 2 characters on the left!

Magic Kingdom

Days 3 and 4 we spent at Magic Kingdom. We divided and conquered by doing half of the park one day and finishing it the second day. The first day was the longest as we stayed late to watch the Main St. Electric Parade and the Disney Wishes show.

There were lots of little side shows that would pop up on the streets such as this one with a singing group on a trolley.

The Haunted Mansion was a lot of fun, and of course we had to catch the much scarier Disney classic Small World above on the right.

The Swiss Family Robinson tree house has always been a favorite of mine. It's amazing the amount of detail the imagineers (Disney terminology) put into it.

If you want to get a good spot for the evening parade and light show, you have to stake your claim early. We got a good spot close to the castle and had to sit for a while for the entertainment to begin. Luckily they provide enough to keep the kids occupied as you can see with Colin above. The castle periodically changed color as the sun was setting which was pretty cool.

And why is Dad not in this picture? I was the only one who didn't buy mouse ears!!
